Healthcare
Looking after your health
If the thought of moving somewhere sunny, warm and relaxing has lifted your spirits, just imagine how much better you’re going to feel when you’re there.
For a start you’ll be saying goodbye to those annoying winter blues, winter aches and pains and high fuel bills. Less stress is definitely going to be great for your health and your overall sense of well being.
If you’re retiring to Cyprus you can still draw your pension, which will go much further here and you’ll be eating well on the Mediterranean diet, proclaimed one of the healthiest in the world by the World Health Organisation.
Common health concerns:
- The heat: Keep out of the sun at the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water or juice and take more salt, wear a hat and use plenty of high factor sun cream.
- Medication: You can buy many prescription drugs over the counter in Cyprus - just show the pharmacist the name of what you’re taking or the box it came in.
- Water: It is safe to drink the tap water wherever you are on the island.
- Doctors: Our property advisors can tell you where to find your nearest doctor, most of whom speak excellent English.
- Hospitals: British citizens have free access to state hospitals where the standard of medical care is very high. You will need to show your European Health Card (EHIC). Private healthcare is more of a luxury than a necessity but it is much cheaper than in the UK.
- Dentists: There are many dentists in Cyprus and treatment is generally cheaper than in most other European countries – our property advisors can tell you where to find your nearest one.
- Pharmacies: Usually open during shopping hours. Details of chemists that will be open during the night, at holidays and on Sundays can be found in the local daily papers or you can dial 192 for information.
When you book an Area and Property Tour you’ll meet expats who have already moved to Cyprus and they can tell you what they think about healthcare in Cyprus.
