Gard Region

Located on the Eastern side of Languedoc, the department of the Gard is on the doorstep of Provence. This is a land full of character; deep forests, steep gorges and plentiful waterways cross the stunning landscape. Little bridges, chapels, terraces, stairways, roofs, all reflect the soul of the country and make this less well known region of France an interesting area to consider looking for property.
Nimes
Nimes is the capital of the Gard. It is smaller than Montpellier and easy to get round in a day. It has a car-free centre which oozes charm at every turn. It boasts a completely intact Roman temple from the 4th Century BC and a perfectly preserved Roman amphitheatre right in the centre of the city (so impressive it was used as the setting for the film, Gladiator). Nimes is also an excellent base from which to visit the nearby Roman aqueduct, the Pont du Gard, the Camargue with its pink flamingos and white horses, and even the enticing golden strands of the- Mediterranean which lie within a 45 minute drive of the city.
