With over 250 km of coastline, seafood is naturally one speciality that you should not miss in Calabria. Swordfi sh is a particular local favourite, either roasted of fried and served with a wonderful tomato sauce.

In fact Calabrian cuisine is among the most fl avourful Italy has to offer. Chilli peppers are a local speciality and you often see them hanging from doors or windows. Eating out is very popular in the region and is much cheaper than the UK and Ireland.

This idyllic land is fi lled with many varieties of trees that range from bergamot and citron to lemon, palm, oleander, almond, chestnut, fi g, olive, and pepper. These natural elements are used as important ingredients in the local cuisine.

We all know that Italians are fond of their wine. Little wonder that Italy has more grape varieties than the rest of the world put together.

In southern Italy, production centres around red wine which rivals wines of the south of France for fl avour and quality.
