Ayia Napa 'could see major investment'

A popular holiday resort in Cyprus could receive a surge of investment in new facilities, it has been reported.
According to the Cyprus Mail, a consortium of private companies is planning to build a recreational marina in Ayia Napa, along with a new range of properties and amenities.
The redevelopment, which is intended to take place in the Louma area, should also include new leisure facilities such as swimming pools, restaurants and a cinema.
It is hoped that if the consortium secures government approval for the project, Ayia Napa could benefit from a surge in tourism and investment.
Antonis Tsokkos, mayor of the municipality, told the Cyprus Mail: "At this moment in time, the consortium is in discussions with the government and nothing has been signed yet."
He added that the new marina would have a positive impact on tourism in the region, as it would attract visitors all year round.
Last week, the Financial Mirror published figures showing that revenue from tourism in Cyprus rose by 3.2 per cent during the year to June 2007.
