Cyprus aims to boost visitor numbers

Tourist officials in Cyprus have announced plans to boost the number of people visiting the island next year.

The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) stated that it want to increase the amount of foreign arrivals in the country by ten per cent next year.

According to estimates from the body cited by Travel and Tourism News, this year's figure is likely to come to more than 55,000.

If the amount does go up significantly, this could be good news for the holiday industry and other groups who depend on it, including private property investors.

The CTO said it would collaborate with airlines in order to help attract more visitors from areas such as the Middle East.

Vassilis Theocharides, director at the body, commented: "The new initiatives in store for the new year will be more joint campaigns with airlines."

According to Travelex, Britons are the biggest group of foreign holidaymakers in Cyprus, accounting for 57 per cent of foreign arrivals on the island.
