Cyprus recommended to retirees

Older people who wish to spend their post-working lives overseas have been pointed towards Cyprus.

According to Shelter Offshore, the Mediterranean island currently offers very affordable healthcare to expatriates.

Since retirees may be highly likely to need treatment at some point of their lives, this could potentially be a decisive factor in choosing their ideal home overseas.

However, the website has suggested that people who are not certain about what they are allowed to access in other countries should make sure they have insurance cover.

Rhiannon Davies, director of Shelter Offshore, commented: "It really is worth looking into health insurance if you are unsure about the level of care you will be entitled to in your preferred destination of choice."

She said insurance cover would ensure that healthcare overseas would be within their financial reach.

According to research by NatWest, more than two-thirds of people feel better living abroad than they did in the UK.

However, the firm said the amount an individual country spends on healthcare provision did not influence the findings, as they are largely based on people's own perceptions of their quality of life.
