Rental market boosted by growing tourism

Rental properties in Cyprus saw greater demand as a result of a year-on-year increase in tourist numbers last month.

Official figures revealed that 108,164 foreign leisure travellers visited the country in March this year - 3.7 per cent more than in the corresponding period of 2006.

Statistics also showed that the number of arrivals from the UK went up by almost nine per cent during this time.

In fact, British holidaymakers were said to have accounted for more than half of the overall number of visitors to Cyprus during March.

This will be positive reading for owners of rental accommodation in Cyprus, as it shows that tourist lodgings have been in high demand.

However, the timing of Easter this year was flagged up as one possible reason for the increase, as the holiday season was much earlier than in 2007.

Easter Sunday was on March 23rd this year - the earliest calendar date it has fallen on since 1913.
