Retirees speak highly of move to Cyprus

A British couple have spoken positively of their decision to pack up and set up home in Cyprus.

Derek and Penny Wallis, from Stirling in Scotland, recently spent £275,000 on a villa on the Mediterranean island.

Speaking to the Daily Record, they revealed that they have been able to take advantage of numerous financial perks as a result of their move, such as tax breaks.

Furthermore, the couple said the value of their home has gone up by more than 40 per cent in the last eight months.

This means they could potentially make a considerable profit should they choose to sell up further down the line.

Mrs Wallis added that Cyprus also provides them with a good quality of life.

She commented: "The climate is just perfect and the people are the friendliest we've ever met."

This comes after Paul Collins from BuyAssociation said Cyprus is popular with British retirees partly because it offers a number of similarities with the UK.

He highlighted its legal system as an example of where it is comparable, as it is based on the rules and regulations in Britain.
