Cyprus tourism to enjoy low-cost flights price war

Tourism in Cyprus is likely to be boosted after the national carrier, Cyprus Airways, declared a price war on rival easyJet, after the latter announced plans to fly to Larnaca in March.

According to the Financial Mirror, the firms are both offering cut-price deals on fares from the UK, but high airport handling fees and taxes will leave them with little room to manoeuvre to avoid falling into losses.

The newspaper reports that Cyprus Airways is slashing its round-trip fares from Gatwick to Larnaca to £179, including all taxes, for trips between January 1st and June 20th, with similar offers in place for those flying from Birmingham and Manchester.

easyJet is offering single fares from £39 per leg, although passengers will have to pay extra for other services.

Meanwhile, a property expert has claimed that Cyprus is still a good place to buy property.

Speaking to the Birmingham Post, Steve Wright, managing director of Cherish Properties, suggested that the country was experiencing strong growth.
