Lira sales rise as more people head to Turkey

The number of people holidaying and buying property in Turkey could be set to rise following an increase in lira sales.

New currency statistics from Marks & Spencer Money reveal that sales of the lira were up by 46 per cent in the first quarter of 2009.

James Yerkess of Marks & Spencer Money claims that the falling value of the pound against the euro means that people are now looking to destinations that use currencies with better conversion rates.

He adds: "Brits still want to enjoy a holiday, but they are being more selective about where they go."

Other warm, non-euro destinations such as Egypt and Mexico are also proving popular among British tourists.

Marks & Spencer Money offers interest-free currency exchanges, with bureau de change branches available in more than 110 stores nationwide.ADNFCR-1210-ID-19104981-ADNFCR
