Spain is 'the most popular overseas property destination'

Spain is the most popular overseas property destination, according to a survey.

The research from Globaledge collated search queries on the internet to draw up the list and the company has claimed it is the largest study ever into the demand for overseas property.

It was found that searches for Spain, along with its towns and regions, took 27.9 per cent of the total search volume.

The most popular locations in the country were Tenerife, Mallorca and Costa Blanca.

France came in at second place, with 13.1 per cent, followed by Italy with 9.2 per cent.

Globaledge managing director Ashley Rigg said: "Most people in the overseas property industry would have put France and Spain on a par, but these results suggest Spanish property is considerably more popular than previously thought."

Meanwhile, the Spanish city of Palma, capital of Mallorca, has been hailed as having "a great location and a fantastic climate" by the Times.

The newspaper described the destination as trendy, with a variety of bars, clubs and restaurants.
