High Commission looking into Cyprus property laws for expats

The island's government is looking into the issue of title deeds for expats currently living in the Cyprus.

Following complaints from Brits who have bought property in Cyprus over the island's property laws, the House of Lords has issued a written answer to the debacle.

Lord Malloch-Brown has said the British High Commission is in discussions with the Cyprus government over the matter, with the average title deeds on the island taking between ten and 15 years, with 100 home owners still waiting, of which 30,000 are foreigners including Brits.

He said: "The government recognises that this issue has the potential to affect a large number of British citizens who have purchased property in Cyprus, and will continue to take a close interest in the measures by which the Cypriot government attempt to resolve this problem."

It was recently confirmed that a new €800 million Disneyland resort is to be built near the holiday resort of Larnaca by a Russian investor partnership.
