A UK regional airport is preparing to handle thousands of passengers over the festive season.
Newcastle International's Chris Sanders said the facility was set to handle about 100,000 passengers during the next ten days.
Speaking to the Northumberland Gazette, he stated that this was one of the busiest and most exciting times for the travel industry.
Mr Sanders, head of aviation development at the airport, added that the popularity of spending Christmas outside of the UK was increasing.
He commented: "More and more people are choosing to go away for Christmas and the New Year, whether it be to join friends and family or simply to catch some winter sun."
Earlier this week, a representative of Norwich International Airport revealed that a large proportion of winter holidaymakers were choosing to visit Spain.
Louise Wilkinson told the Norwich Evening News that people were choosing to go abroad because it was quick and easy.
