Britons visit Italy for 'nostalgia holiday'

Many Britons are choosing to visit Italy in order to bring back old memories, according to experts.

Research by Expedia.co.uk found that 90 per cent of people from the UK had gone to places such as Rome and Florence in order to relive previous experiences, reports TravelMole.

More than one in four people said they liked to revisit the scene of a memorable childhood holiday, while one in five were found to like going to somewhere they had once lived.

The research also showed that many people were choosing to return to their honeymoon destination or the place where they had got married or engaged.

Caroline Cartellieri, managing director of Expedia, commented: "Nostalgia has become a big driver in destination choice."

She added that this was one of the reasons for the continuing popularity of established European holiday destinations.

According to figures from the Post Office, 2.4 million Britons are planning to take a trip overseas during the forthcoming festive season.
