Calabria praised by second home owner

An overseas property investor from Scotland has spoken of his decision to purchase a second home in southern Italy.

Eric Smith recently purchased a one-bedroom apartment in Calabria province for £60,000.

Although he plans to use the property as a holiday home, he is also intending to rent it out to visiting holidaymakers.

Speaking to the Sunday Mail, he stated that while the area is largely unknown to British holidaymakers, more and more flights to Calabria are likely to be introduced soon.

He commented: "Ryanair have just started flights from Stansted to Lamezia airport.

"Once one of the low-cost airlines moves in, others tend to follow."

Mr Smith added that the area has "potential", which makes it ideal for a long-term investment.

This comes after broadcaster Amanda Lamb, presenter of Channel 4's A Place in the Sun, explained why she recently bought a holiday home in southern Italy.

She described her new home in Puglia as an ideal place to escape to at the weekends with friends and family.
