
Couples could soon be able to marry on the very balcony where Juliet stood in as Romeo courted her in Shakespeare's classic play.
The city is looking to attract tourists to the stone balcony in Verona, Italy, which was said to be Juliet's former home.
Under the city council's 'Marry me in Verona' project, local citizens would pay 600 euros for the privilege, while EU couples would be charged 100 euros more.
Tourism councillor Daniele Polato said: "We'll be offering tourist packages just like Las Vegas does. We'll offer a wedding and honeymoon as well.
"It's a way of using the city's artistic heritage to boost tourism."
The building is believed to have been the family home of the Cappellos who, if legend is to be believed, were Juliet's family the Capulets in the play.
A recent study by market research firm Mintel indicated that Italy is one of the most popular destinations for Britons keen to marry overseas.
