Investors 'looking at Calabria'

Many offshore property investors are targeting Italian provinces such as Calabria, it has emerged.

New accessibility to such areas provided by cheap flight operators has generated new opportunities for investors to make gains, explained Rhiannon Williamson, director of Amberlamb.

On investment trends in Italy, she said: "It is this increased accessibility that's dictating which areas of the nation are now worth looking at."

Italy offers a stable property market and traditional areas generally start from a relatively high level, meaning the chances of achieving capital growth are smaller, argued Ms Williamson.

Calabria's newly accessible market, however, is less mature and is among those that offer the "best chance" for investors to achieve capital growth, she added.

Italy's property market has not witnessed the rocketing prices seen in Spain, France of Bulgaria but underlying capital growth in the country has always been steady, commented Channel 4's A Place in the Sun.
