Italian officials aim to boost tourist sector

Representatives of Italy's tourism industry are currently engaged in promoting the country overseas.

ANSA reports that people from 170 bodies affiliated with the sector are taking part in a major tourism trade fair in Spain.

Since Spaniards account for the largest group of foreign leisure travellers in Italy, this could potentially lead to more choosing to visit the country next year.

This could bode well for its rental market, as the demand for holiday accommodation will be likely to increase as a result.

About 1.8 million people from Spain went to Italy in 2007, mainly in places such as Campania, Lazio and Tuscany.

Other areas including Veneto, Sicily and Lombardia were also said to be popular tourist destinations.

This comes after a poll by NatWest found that Italy was rated very highly by Britons who have moved there on a permanent basis.
