Italy recommended to retirees

Italy has been flagged up as a good destination for those who wish to spend their retirement overseas.

According to ShelterOffshore.com, the European country offers a number of attractions including culture, sophistication and natural beauty.

The website said people who live in Italy can also enjoy a "fabulous" climate, affordable living costs and no visa restrictions.

ShelterOffshore.com added that a growing number of people in the UK are thinking of moving to countries such as Italy, partly because the downturn in the domestic economy.

"Never has there been a more popular time to consider retiring abroad," it commented.

"The grass has never seemed greener than right now."

Prospective expats were also told that Italy offers a lifestyle to suit different types of people, as expats can be as relaxed or as fast-paced as they choose.

According to Paul Collins of BuyAssociation, the number of enquiries it has received from prospective expats has gone up by seven per cent in the last year.
