Boomerang expats decide Cyprus is home

Although the plummeting pound has forced many expats in Cyprus to consider returning to Britain, some who made the move back have realised that the sunny Mediterranean country is now home, the Cyprus Mail reports.

The newspaper suggested that many expats who feel forced to return to Britain dislike the cold, wet way of life so much, they move back to Cyprus within weeks.

Many expats also complained that Britain was a "restrictive" society lacking in freedom.

Expat Maxine Morse, who left the island in 2006 to live in London, said she found her native country "unbelievably restrictive" and added she was much happier after returning to Cyprus.

Another example of a woman who could not say no to the relaxed summery lifestyle was Sarah Russell, who spend only two weeks in England before getting on a plane back to her adopted country.

Lucy and Frixos Polykarpou told the newspaper a similar story, with Lucy complaining that London life was "boring and tedious" before they made the choice to retire in Cyprus permanently.

Meanwhile, tourism in Cyprus is likely to be boosted after the national carrier, Cyprus Airways, declared a price war on rival easyJet, after the latter announced plans to fly to Larnaca in March, the Financial Mirror reports.
