A couple who invested in property in Paphos, Cyprus, have said they chose the region for its peacefulness and popularity with British people.
Robert and Adele Philliben told the Sunday Mail that although they had visited Ayia Napa, they now preferred quieter holidays and wanted to invest in property that would give them a good return.
The couple have bought two one-bedroom apartments at the Arcadia Gardens development, one of which has its own roof terrace for outdoor dining and sunbathing.
Robert told the newspaper: "We settled in Cyprus because it's so popular with British people.
"The similarities of the legal system meant that buying wasn't difficult and we thought we'd never struggle to rent out our property so that clinched it."
Construction on Arcadia Gardens began in 2007 and is expected to be completed by August 2010.
All properties come furnished and residents will have access to five large outdoor swimming pools along with sports and leisure facilities.
Meanwhile, Cyprus has been described as one of the cheapest places to retire abroad.
According to travel website shelteroffshore.com, the Mediterranean island charges a maximum of just five per cent income tax on pensions and property prices are lower than last year.
International Property Awards in association with Google and Bloomberg Television have awarded MASA Internaitonal the Best Estate Agency in Spain award.
