Expat headed for Cyprus offers his advice

Phil Keating, a semi-retired RAF wing commander, has offered his advice on buying property in Cyprus.

Mr Keating, 58, is currently living in Abu Dhabi and working part-time as a manager at a defence services company, reports the National.

He and wife Lindsey plan to move to their three-bedroom home in southern Cyprus once he is fully retired.

Mr Keating used to land in Cyprus frequently with the RAF and has always had a fondness for the Mediterranean island before deciding to build a villa close to a seaside village called Pissouri.

He advised people wanting to follow in his steps to always ensure they use a reputable developer, adding: "I have known people who go to Cyprus, fall in love with its beauty and buy the first house they see.

"My advice would be to know what you want and take your time. Check, check and check again," he told the newspaper.

In related news, an artificial island is being built off the town of Limassol in Cyprus, it has been reported.

The island is being constructed as part of the redevelopment of the town's marina, which is one of four across the country seeing investment.
