An expat living in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, has described it as a "deserted paradise" in the winter months.
Writing in the Cyprus Mail, Nathan Morley said that although the resort is packed with tourists throughout the summer, he welcomed the slow, friendly pace of life through the colder months.
He described local people as "bursting with warmth and friendliness", adding that the end of the season meant people could be more sociable and meet more often.
Mr Morley said: "Long walks along the stunning cliffs with my dog, fireside chats at local taverns and the howling of the wind from the sea at the windows at night its like being a character in Jamaica Inn."
He added that he could see why Daphne Du Maurier was inspired by the jagged coastline to write Rebecca in the 1930s.
Meanwhile, Cyprus is still a good place to invest despite the plummeting pound, a property expert has claimed.
Speaking to the Birmingham Post, Steve Wright, managing director of Cherish Properties, suggested that the country was experiencing strong growth.
