Expats in Cyprus to celebrate new year's eve with a giant kebab

Expats and holidaymakers in Cyprus this new year's eve may be able to see the world's biggest doner kebab being made, reports the Cyprus Mail.

The record-breaking attempt by local cooks will be held in the popular holiday town of Paphos as part of the celebrations.

Festivities in the resort are to be based around a new Christmas tree outside the town hall and will include free drinks, music and entertainment.

Seasonal expat Ada Maxwell told the newspaper: "I come to Paphos for the winter and this year the seafront looks fabulous. I walked down here last night and I felt really Christmassy.

"The new promenade is great and is set off beautifully at night by the twinkling lights."

Christmas decorations and events will be also be held in other popular expat locations such as Nicosia, Limassol and Ayia Napa, the newspaper reports.

Meanwhile, Phil Keating, a semi-retired RAF wing commander who plans to retire in Cyprus, has offered people his advice on buying property on the island.

He told the National that would-be expats should be sure of the property they want and take care to check details and documents carefully.
