Former estate agent praises new life in Sardinia

When Sally Usher handed in her notice at work, she had no idea she would soon be starting a new life on the island of Sardinia, Italy, the Sun reports.

She had been working as an estate agent in Norwich but decided instead to train as a scuba dive instructor in order to start afresh in a foreign country.

After travelling around eastern Europe, Sardinia was recommended to her by a friend.

Ms Usher told the newspaper: "I arrived in Alghero, met a good-looking local, loved the lifestyle, the culture, the people, the food and decided to stay.

"Salvatore and I are together still and really happy. I make ends meet by having several different jobs which I find an enjoyable and fun way to work."

However, the expat has not said goodbye to her career as an estate agent quite yet, as she has started up a business as a property-finder for English-speaking clients.

Meanwhile, research from travelsupermarket.com has found that the number of Brits planning holidays abroad in 2009 is set to increase from 1.5 million to 1.8 million.
