Officials are set to consider licences for 14 golf courses on Cyprus which would lead to thousands of new properties being built, it has been reported.
According to propertywire.com, the main issue has been around the scarcity of water in the area and it is likely that officials will insist on renewable energy-powered desalination plants being built.
The golf courses are expected to be mostly around Limassol and Paphos, with some for Tersefanous in Larnaca and one in Ayia Napa.
Licences cost a minimum of five million euros (£4.51 million) but this may increase when the benefits to businesses involved in the projects have been assessed.
The applications will be seen by the Council of Ministers in the next four weeks, the website reports.
Meanwhile, northern Cyprus, frequently overlooked in favour of its southern neighbour, offers beautiful landscapes, unspoiled beaches and affordable property, it has been claimed.
According to the Daily Mail, prices in the region are around half as much as those in southern Cyprus for comparable properties, due to the north still trading in Turkish lira.
