Italy 'offers best quality of life'

Overseas property buyers could enjoy a higher quality of life if they invest in Italy, according to a new study.

Research by the Academy of Healthy Ageing showed that the country offered a better lifestyle than any other nation in Europe, reports the Typically Spanish website.

The study found that people in Italy tended to enjoy a superior diet as well, which in turn contributed to a longer life expectancy.

Men were said to live until an average age of 71, while women were expected to reach 76 years old.

This put it ahead of other European countries such as Spain, which was rated second in the study.

Male life expectancy in Spain was placed at 70, while their female counterparts were estimated to reach an average age of 75.3.

The findings could potentially reinforce the two countries' popularity among Britons who wish to move abroad.

More than 55,000 Britons are currently drawing their state pension in Spain, according to government figures, which also showed that 35,000 were doing the same in Italy.
