Lifestyle and sun are the best things about living abroad, expats say

Expats living around the world have said that a better way of life, warm weather and good food are the best things about living abroad.

In a Bupa International survey, over two-thirds of people living abroad said the best thing about their new home was an improved lifestyle, with 60 per cent citing the warm, sunny climate as the top reason for making the move.

However, six out of ten admitted missing their family and friends, while those from Britain pine for the taste of traditional roasts and fish and chips.

Expats originally from the UK said they missed their local pub, while those from South Africa the worst thing about living abroad was not being able support their national teams with friends.

Dr Sneh Khemka, medical director at Bupa International, said: "For many, moving abroad is a dream come true as well as a huge life-changing challenge – but clearly the weather, food and lifestyle compensate a little for missing close family and friends, especially at important times of the year such as Christmas."

Meanwhile, British retirees have been advised that they could free up their pensions while avoiding tax and restrictions by placing their money in a Qrops trust structure, reports the Connexion.
