Retired expats receive the most visitors from home

Retired British expats and those who are working abroad receive the most visits from family and friends, according to a survey.

An Alliance & Leicester poll has shown that one in four expats said they had family and friends who visit them regularly and those in Spain receive an average of eight visitors a year, second only to those living in France.

People who are retired or have moved abroad to work have family and friends come to stay the most, with an average of just over six visitors per year.

Despite this, visitors can sometimes cause tension and just over seven per cent of expats admitting to arguing with their partner as a result of having family and friends to stay.

Six per cent of respondents said they wished they had made their guests stay in a hotel.

Meanwhile, British expats on the Costa Blanca can now get everything they want for a perfect traditional Christmas.

The Johnson's Supermarket chain, one of the biggest British stores in the region, is selling turkeys of all sizes, along with Brussels sprouts, roast potatoes and parsnips in the freezer section, roundtownnews.co.uk reports.
