Although expats in Europe have had some bad news regarding costs of living recently, they can still enjoy the benefits of life abroad, it has been claimed.
Rosemary Righter of the Times has said that beautiful scenery and warm weather are "things money can't buy", and that despite reports of expats struggling to pay heating bills, the same is true of people still living in the UK.
Ms Righter, who has a home in Umbria, Italy, argued that current scares about the cost of living in the eurozone are "somewhat perverse" considering the hefty price rises that accompanied its launch in Italy back in 2002.
Her advice to those thinking of returning to the UK is to consider that it is not known how long the pound will stay down for.
Meanwhile, people planning to retire abroad should consider southern Spain, it has been claimed.
According to potterworldonline, the south-east Mediterranean coast has the highest percentage of retirees in the world, when both local people and expats are included.
International Property Awards in association with Google and Bloomberg Television have awarded MASA Internaitonal the Best Estate Agency in Spain award.
