Alicante 'popular with foreigners'

The Spanish province of Alicante is proving to be highly popular with foreign property buyers, a media report has revealed.
According to the TypicallySpanish website, nearly one in five people who permanently reside in the region are expatriates from overseas.
The news portal cited official data showing that 4,700 properties were purchased by foreign nationals in Alicante during the final three months of 2006
In addition, it said that about half of the overall number of expats had originated from other European countries.
The TypicallySpanish website added that Valencia as a whole was also very popular with foreign property buyers, with 70 per cent of houses in the region owned by people from overseas.
Meanwhile, Thomson Financial has reported that the number of tourists visiting Spain has risen by five per cent in the last year.
Official figures cited by the news provider also showed that the country attracted more than three million holidaymakers in November.
