American tourists seek "authentic" Europe

Overseas property investors may be interested to note that one expert has suggested that American tourists are increasingly looking to enjoy more unique holiday experiences in Europe.
Pauline Frommer, a travel writer and editor, told the Associated Press that American visitors to Europe are turning away from traditional hotels in favour of renting rooms and private homes.
"It has to do with money, and it also has to do with the yearning to get out of the cookie-cutter vacation and see a more authentic side," she commented.
A lot of people have returned from Europe disappointed with the present weak dollar, she suggested.
The news provider noted that the US department of commerce stated that travel to Europe by Americans increased by two per cent during the first nine months of the year, compared with the corresponding period in 2006.
In related news, a spokesperson for Rail Europe said that the European high-speed rail network is continually "improving".
Rail offers a great deal of "flexibility", she remarked, adding that tourists are able to "hop from country to country".
