Barcelona attracts foreign tourists
Thursday May 8th , 2008

More than a quarter of people who visited Spain last year went to Catalonia, it has been revealed.
According to official figures, a total of 59.2 million foreign leisure travellers arrived in Spain during 2007 - 1.7 per cent more than in the previous year.
However, statistics also show that the Catalonia region - which includes major cities such as Barcelona - attracted more than 15.2 million of these people.
Commenting on the findings, tourism expert David Zynert said: "There are few places in Spain with so much variety in landscape and culture."
He added that Barcelona is one of the most "dynamic" cities in the whole country, which also offers a large number of cultural and historic attractions.
This comes after online travel agency Freedom Direct said tourists from the UK are continuing to snap up bargain trips to Spain.
According to the firm, people have not been put off travelling to Europe by less than favourable exchange rates.
