Britons head for Mediterranean
Thursday March 13th , 2008

Countries along the Mediterranean island coastline are set to be very popular with people from the UK this year, according to a new poll.
Research by TNS Travel and Tourism found that about 27 per cent of British tourists are planning to spend at least a full week in this region, reports Travel Weekly.
This will be welcomed by owners of rental accommodation in countries such as Spain, Cyprus, Turkey and Italy, as many depend on tourism to generate income.
The findings suggest that demand for temporary lodgings in these places will remain strong, despite the impact of global economic problems such as the credit crunch.
Commenting on the findings, Tom Costley of TNS said: "The UK holiday market appears resilient in the face of the economic downturn."
Figures from the organisation also showed that about 30 million people from the UK are set to travel abroad this year.
According to official data, Spain attracted more than 59.2 million tourists in 2007.
