Germans 'visiting established markets'

Established holiday destinations in Europe are proving to be highly popular with German tourists, new figures have revealed.

A poll of leisure travellers by Urlaub Perfekt magazine showed that Spain was the preferred destination among 76 per cent of respondents.

This placed it ahead of other European countries including Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey.

Spain was found to be highly rated because it met all the criteria outlined in the survey, such as affordability and offering good quality accommodation.

The country was also said to be a family-friendly location where visitors would get good customer service.

Spain's popularity among German consumers was highlighted earlier this week after official figures revealed that it attracted ten million holidaymakers from the country last year.

Statistics also showed that the overall number of visitors rose by 1.7 per cent on the previous year to 59.2 million.
