International tourists head to Spain

Officials in Spain have revealed that the number of incoming leisure travellers has gone up this year.

According to government figures, the European country attracted 26.6 million holidaymakers between January and June 2008.

This is 2.6 per cent up on the amount recorded during the same period of the previous year, reports Euroresidentes.

Spain was said to be particularly popular with British holidaymakers, as more than a quarter of all foreign visitors hailed from the UK.

In fact, the number of British visitors during the year to date was found to be one per cent up on the first six months of 2007.

Figures showed that the country also attracted many other nationalities as well, including Italians and Germans.

This is a positive development for people who have invested in the Spanish buy-to-let sector, as many rely on tourism to generate rental yields.

According to Holiday-Rentals, almost a third of European properties owned by UK-based buyers are located in the country.
