More holiday homes up for rent

An increasing number of holiday homes are being put up for rent, according to recent figures.

Property site holidaylettings.co.uk notes that more than 500 new holiday homes were added to its database in February, suggesting more people prefer to rent out their home for extra income rather than letting it sit empty.

According to the findings, owners of holiday homes in France, Italy, Portugal and Cyprus are the most keen to advertise their property for short-term lettings to UK holidaymakers.

Furthermore, Turkey is now the sixth most active country for newly advertised properties overtaking the likes of Cyprus and the Canary Islands in February.

Enquiries for accommodation in Turkey were found to be up some 65 per cent year-on-year.

Alexander Kraft, chief executive officer of Sotheby's International Realty in France, recently noted that property buyers looking for holiday homes are returning to the market as prices in many countries fall.
