People in Spain 'live longer'

Spanish nationals have a much higher life expectancy than people in many other parts of Europe, new research has found.

According to uSwitch.com, people in the country can expect to live on average about 79.9 years, compared with 78.9 in the UK.

The study also showed that a typical Spaniard is able to enjoy a longer retirement than a British person, as they tend to finish working at the age of 62.

By contrast, the average Briton is having to wait until they are 63.2 years old until they can retire.

This was partially attributed to high living costs in the UK, as many cannot afford to stop working as early as they would like.

Commenting on the figures, uSwitch said: "The quality of life in Spain is boosted further by the most hours of sunshine and a generous holiday allowance."

This comes soon after the Spanish Property Owners Guild highlighted the country as an ideal location for expatriates.
