Retirees 'should carry out research'
Monday August 4th , 2008

Pensioners thinking of retiring in the sun are being advised by experts to ensure that they look into all aspects of their relocation and the possible ramifications of the move.
Gordon Lishman, director general of Age Concern, noted that healthcare and social services in a foreign country are likely to differ from those in the UK, reports the Bournemouth Echo.
He urged retirees to "do their homework" thoroughly to see what benefits would be available to them and to consider how their own situation may change once they move.
By doing this, he claimed that many potential problems could be avoided.
Mr Lishman stated: "Retiring abroad can be a great experience for many, but clearly living in another country is very different from holidaying there."
A recent survey by NatWest found that nine in ten expatriates felt they had a better quality of life abroad and that they were happier and better of financially than they were in the UK.
