Spain aims to attract more Indians

Tourist officials in Spain have outlined plans to tap into the lucrative Indian market.
The National Tourist Office (NTO) of Spain has revealed that it wants to increase the number of Indian consumers who visit the country.
Enrique Ruiz e Lera, spokesperson for the NTO, stated that Spain attracted 55,000 Indian holidaymakers last year.
However, he told the Indo-Asian News Service that the number of visitors is not its overarching priority.
He commented: "We are a nation of 43 million and attracted 60 million tourists last year so numbers mean little to us."
Mr Ruiz e Lera said the NTO is interested in attracting high-end Indian travellers who have "interesting" and "sophisticated" tastes.
This comes after the Spanish government revealed that the overall number of visitors to Spain went up by 1.7 per cent last year.
About one in four holidaymakers were found to come from Britain, while figures also indicated that Spain was also highly popular with people from Germany and France.
