Spain 'cheapest of all eurozone countries'

Financially-stretched Britons can still enjoy bargains and affordable prices in Spain, according to new figures.

The Post Office has compared the prices of tourist staples across the world in order to identify the best-value destinations.

This is because the pound has slumped to a record low against the single European currency, thereby making many eurozone countries very expensive to British visitors.

However, the Post Office has said that Spain is actually the cheapest place to holiday within the eurozone, as prices are much lower than those in places such as France.

Figures from the organisation show that general expenses for tourists could be up to 15 per cent lower in Spain than in its neighbouring country.

Helen Warburton, head of travel at the Post Office, observed: "Prices vary quite significantly within Europe so people will be looking to visit countries where a lower cost of living will offer them more for their pound."

According to the Association of British Travel Agents, Spain was the "outright favourite" among those heading abroad during last month's Bank Holiday weekend.
