Spain mounts tourism campaign
Wednesday August 27th , 2008

The Spanish government has started a new campaign entitled Winter in Spain in a bid to support the country's tourism sector.
A tourism and industry ministry spokesman told the Independent: "It's a proposal by the government to attract people outside the usual summer holiday period."
Details of what the campaign will entail have not been released, but there is a proposal to introduce subsidised package holidays in order to appeal to elderly European holidaymakers, which may interest people looking for a property in Spain.
According to the newspaper, the tourism industry in Spain has shown signs of weakening, as last month the number of holidaymakers flying in from abroad dropped by eight per cent in comparison to July last year.
Jose Luis Zoreda, vice-chairman of the Alliance for Tourism Excellence, called for "urgent measures" and "big financial injections" in order to help industry.
Meanwhile, Homes Worldwide has said that people in the UK are still looking to Spain for their holiday homes, but are choosing places outside of the usual tourist centres.
