Antalya visitor numbers continue to rise

Overseas property buyers may be able to take advantage of rising visitor numbers in Turkey's Antalya province.

According to the Mediterranean Tourism Hotels Union (AKTOB), hotel occupancy rates in the region have already reached their highest levels, Today's Zaman reports.

The organisation has predicted that this will be the case until the middle of October, as some visitors are struggling to find even a single room.

Meanwhile, other forms of accommodation, such as privately-owned holiday homes, are also becoming highly sought after.

Sururi Corabatir, chairman of AKTOB commented: "Not only five-star hotels, but other accommodation facilities are also expected to reach 100 per cent occupancy soon."

He described the increase in visitor numbers over the last few months as a "remarkable" development.

The Turkish government recently said it wants to attract more than 50 million visitors a year by 2023.

This will be more than double the amount of holidaymakers recorded last year and should be highly lucrative for the country's economy.
