
A Turkish museum is aiming to attract tourists with a major exhibition showcasing art from the country's past.
The exhibition, entitled Voyage to the West: The 70-year Adventure of Turkish Painting, opened yesterday at Sabanci University's Sakip Sabanci Museum.
People living in Turkey will be able to enjoy guided tours of artwork produced by a range of painters born in the 19th century.
Touching on the origins of Turkish painting, the show will include works from Hoca Ali Riza, Ibrahim Calli and Seker Ahmet Pas.
Educational workshops will run alongside the installation to teach children and young people more about Turkish culture.
After undergoing extension work in 2005, Sakip Sabanci Museum has grown to boast a number of permanent painting and calligraphy collections.
