Turkey 'appeals to different nationalities'

Turkey is attracting leisure travellers from many different locations, according to official data.

Figures from the Turkish Board of Statistics revealed that the country had attracted visitors from a number of countries, including France, Britain and Germany.

However, Turkey's appeal was found to extend further into places such Russia and the US.

The country was also said to be a popular destination for people in eastern Europe, as many Bulgarians had taken holidays there this year.

Meanwhile, figures from the organisation showed that the overall number of foreign arrivals had gone up this year.

Turkey was said to have attracted 15.4 per cent more people last month than it did at the same point in 2006.

The board stated that a total of 1.8 million holidaymakers arrived in the country during November.

Earlier this week, Frances Tuke of the Association of British Travel Agents told the Western Mail that Turkey had seen a "resurgence" in popularity this year.
