Turkey draws in UK holidaymakers

More and more holidaymakers in the UK are choosing to visit Turkey, according to new figures.

The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) stated that while traditional hotspots such as Spain remain very popular, a growing number of people are looking elsewhere.

This has been partially attributed to the fact that Britain currently offers less than favourable exchange rates with many eurozone countries.

As a result, many are opting to visit less expensive countries in order to let their money go further.

Turkey was flagged up as one country which is benefiting from this trend, as bookings have gone up by 20 per cent this summer.

Commenting on the figures, Mark Tanzer of ABTA said: "Spain is still the top destination this year, but with the strong euro, greater growth is being experienced in the mid to long haul destinations outside the eurozone."

This comes after Lastminute.com revealed that it has seen a 14 per cent increase in the number of bookings for Turkey this year.
