Turkey set to attract more visitors

The number of holidaymakers in Turkey is likely to rise by more than a tenth this year, according to a leading official.

Murat Dedeman, head of the Turkish Tourism Investors Association, said tourism in the country is likely to increase by 12 per cent in 2008, reports the Guardian.

This is likely to be highly lucrative for the Turkish economy, which stands to earn revenues of more than £11 billion pounds from the sector.

In addition, this could potentially make the country more attractive to foreign property investors who want to enter the rental market.

Mr Dedeman commented: "It seems the trend is very good and that Turkey will have a good season."

He added that concerns over a global worldwide recession do not seem to be having a major impact on global tourism.

This comes after Ian Bradley of the Association of Independent Tour Operators told the Guardian that this year's "gloomy financial outlook" was not putting people off going abroad.
