Turkish currency in greater demand
Monday April 14th , 2008

The Post Office has reported an increase in the number of Britons who are purchasing Turkish currency.
According to the organisation, demand for Turkish lira in March 2008 was 30 per cent up on the same period of 2007.
This has been partially attributed to the declining strength of the pound, as it is currently at a record low against the euro.
As a result, many holidaymakers from the UK are choosing to book trips to places where their money can go further.
Speaking to the Eastern Daily Press, a spokesperson for the Post Office said: "Obviously an early Easter played a factor in this but we believe tourists are increasingly taking advantage of Turkey's low living costs."
He added that people are still opting to visit Turkey even though the pound has weakened against the lira by nine per cent in the last 12 months.
According to official data, 23.5 million foreign leisure travellers visited Turkey last year.
