Winter tourists 'go to Turkey'

Thousands of holidaymakers are set to visit Turkey during the winter months, experts have predicted.

The Turkish Hotels Federation (THF) said that places such as Uludag and Palandoken would be highly popular destinations over the next few months, reports the Anatolia news agency.

According to the body, the two places are likely to appeal strongly to Russians, as up to 18,000 people from the country have been tipped to visit them.

Uludag and Palandoken were described by the news agency as "renowned" winter tourism destinations, hence their popularity with visitors from overseas.

Speaking to Anatolia, THF general secretary Isik Ugurtug said they had started attracting lots of Russians since Turkish authorities began participating in tourism fairs in places such as Moscow.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Press has reported that snow thickness in Uludag is now more than 100 centimetres.

This will be a positive development for visitors hoping to partake in activities such as skiing.
