Tranquil L’Alfas del Pi and its beach at Albir are located just south of Altea, within reach of lively Benidorm. It’s easy to get to, only a short 45 minute drive from the airport at Alicante.
It’s a typical Spanish town, with mountain and coastal scenery, decorated with thousands of pine trees, which provide much needed shade on the hottest days.
L’Alfas Del Pi also has a rich cultural life which includes the usual fiestas but also hosts music festivals, concerts and exhibitions at the Casa de la Cultura. It also has a very popular international Spanish film festival every July.
There are plenty of places to visit from here including Altea, Calpe and Benidorm and if you’re feeling energetic you can always take a hike along the footpaths of the Sierra Helada, enjoying breathtaking views towards the coast.
The Blue Flag shingle beach at Albir runs as far as Altea. Its sheltered location makes it excellent for all water sports. You can rent windsurfing equipment and there’s a catamaran school and charter sailing company located here.
There are lovely views along the coast from this beach and a great choice of restaurants for a relaxing tapas lunch or evening meal.
It’s a great place to sit and relax, watching the sun setting on the horizon while all you have to think about is what you plan to do tomorrow.
You could go for a drive along the coast north to Altea’s Blue Flag beaches or south to the livelier beaches at Benidorm.
If you’re looking for a quieter day, Altea’s La Solsida is recommended, though it can only be reached on foot along a rocky path.
